Painting Beauty

The painting was done for Gate – cards computer game, I’m currently working on. One of the main concepts of the game is mix of sci-fi and fantasy styles. In this tutorial I will show you how to make an interesting photomanipulation from not really interesting source photos. This tutorial was made on a PC, with Photoshop 7 but it can be also done with Photoshop CS or CS2. If you are on mac use Cmd instead of CTRL and Opt instead of Alt for the shortcuts.

MZ Soft Focus

january 1976, day trip to Yosemite Valley. Snow covered most of the earth as I drove Ole Gray, a friends Chevy van missing the driver’s window along with no heater’ in the freezing cold air to location near Yosemite. Stopped the van to create images with my Hasselblad using my chrome ringed Softar 1 filter that had the perfect amount of scratches to yield unmatchable results. Getting back to Modesto and checking my equipment, I noticed that my Softar 1 filter was missing, it wasn’t on the lens case or anywhere in the van. Realizing I must have dropped it at the only location I stopped, my heart sank knowing that losing this one of a kind soft focus filter would bring a certain style of my work to an end.

Still object in motion

Want to create a website with several cars in motion? Short of driving next to one with my camera out a window, I knew I needed to fake it in Photoshop. I knew that an hour before dark would capture the best light for this project, so at 7 pm on a California Summer, six cars came rolling into my local parking lot.
