Fairy tale of furry tail
There are so many ways in Photoshop to extract objects from an image when you want to change or get rid of the background. Lasso, magic wand, paths, select color range, quick mask, extract, etc. Great techniques, but none of them will normally work well if the object you want to mask out has fur or hair. Some photoshoppers like to use special tricks within the channels palette to work around this problem but all you really need is some skills with the smudge tool and, as always, patience.

Histogram Guide
Histograms give a very quick reference point from which you can tell a lot about your image, be this on your computer or a digital camera LCD display. Simply put – A histogram is a representation of the colours within your image. On the left there is pure black, on the right there is pure white; with every colour in the spectrum between. The vertical height of any column shows how many pixels of that exact colour there are in your image at each brightness setting.
